Ok, so I know that you are itching to know the rest of my blessings, right?? Right.

So, here's the scoop. For a while now I have been posting in both blogs, this one and
Leen The Graphics Queen. Well, I am posting the same things in both blogs. Literally, I am copying and pasting from one to the other. And I wonder where all my time goes! Silly time munchers like that.

So I will probably not be posting here so much anymore. Unless it's a personal, family thing.
If you want to know what I am up to you'll have to check out the other blog. And I know that you want to know all the amazingly interesting things I am up to :) and of course, the rest of my blessings list.

Contentment #3

Saturday morning I woke up around 4 and couldn't get back to sleep, this happens to me often because I have SO much on mind at any given time. By 5 I was emptying the dishwasher and starting laundry (quietly of course, it's a little house and I didn't want to wake anyone). Around six 'ish I gave up even thinking that I may go back to sleep, made some coffee and headed out to the garden.

My yard sounded like a rain forest, the birds were all talking at once. I saw a few herons flying toward the waterway, starting their day. The flowers in my garden are so beautiful right now and there was not another person to be seen. The entire scene was so peaceful. I was enjoying the sereneness (is that a word?) of it all and thinking about the day ahead and was looking forward to my family waking up and making them breakfast and spending a day with them with no plans at all. It made me realize how content I am with my life.

Yes, sometimes I stress and there are even times that I think I may lose it but even then I am content deep inside. I have the most wonderful husband and four great kids (I could go on and on and on about them), I make a living doing something that I love to do that allows me to be creative. I live near the ocean, for gosh sakes, how fabulous is that? I realized that for me, it just doesn't get any better. I did a few of those big happy sighs (you know the ones) and said a little prayer of thanks.

I truly have a wonderful life and I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to reflect on it that morning. So my blessing for today is contentment and I hope that today you are also blessed with that feeling of a big happy sigh :)

Blessings Day 2~ Baby Naps!

Ok, I do realize that I skipped yesterday so this should be day 3 of my Blessings posts.

But I have a good reason. Middle boy, baby boy and I all have walking pneumonia. Yes, you do remember correctly that we just over the flu twice. And no, I don't know why they call it walking pneumonia because I don't feel like moving from the couch much less walking. If I did walk I think my lungs would absolutely Explode!

Now that that is out of the way, my blessing for today is that baby boy has finally stopped coughing long enough to take a nap and I think that I will join him :)

I hope that today you can find a few moments to close your eyes (at least) and think about your blessings.

Todays Blessing~ FAITH

Today the first blessing that came to mind was Faith. To me, faith is different from religion. There have been times in my life when my faith was wavering. As I grow older I see that faith must be an important part of my life in order for me to live the life that was planned for me.

I won't dwelve into it too deeply here but no matter what your faith is, no matter where you place that faith recognize what a blessing it is.

Every time I get frustrated or stressed out (which lately happens more often that I care to admit), I stop and think about the things that I am grateful for. Try it, it really helps :)

For example, when I have a mountain of work to do and my 2 year old is not content to play quietly with his train set but instead MUST be on my lap rocking, that tends to stress me out! But then I think how blessed I am to even have this sweet little boy who wants to snuggle me and that some day all too soon he will be too busy with friends and girls (gasp!) and other things that he won't be bothered to cuddle his mommy. Suddenly the stress melts away and the snuggling begins :)

I saw an article recently about people listing the top five things they are thankful for. I quickly mentally rattled off at least 20. For the next ten days I will list ten blessings in my life in no particular order (that's because I don't know which ten I am going to use yet). Just ten random things, not necessarily my TOP ten.

I hope this inspires you to think about the blessings in your life and how fortunate you are to have them.

Hello all! Just found a couple of seconds (literally) to post a bit about what we've been up to before making dinner and running to Jamie's soccer practice. Ok, while typing that very short sentence I had to check on the boys twice because I didn't like the sounds coming from the living room. The sound of the glass doors on the hutch being slammed bothers me for some reason :)

Well, now you know that Jamie is playing soccer again. He's really improving! At last weeks game he actually kicked the ball! That's a big improvement from standing in one spot the whole game. He still skips around the field but it's so stinking cute that we don't mind. He's also in gymnastics. He is loving it and he smiles the entire time! His class is making a Living Wax Museum, more on that in a couple weeks, I don't want to give away his character. I will tell you that his costume came today (no, I don't think we were supposed to buy costumes but I couldn't resist) and it is THE CUTEST!

Mikey is in track now. He has a meet this afternoon. He's doing really well especially considering this is his first season. He's grow about a foot in the last couple months. I swear every morning he comes out if his room and he's taller than he was the night before. He's making good grades (of course) and still reading all the time.

Kortney is taking classes at the community college. She also is working there. Her job is to go to class with a disabled man and help him with notes and things like that. It's a great job for her because she wants to work with handicapped kids when she finishes school. Soon, the putt-putt place will open and she will be spending all her time serving up cones at the beach!

Elijah has been practicing for auditions for Nemo 2, he's pretty good and I am sure he can land this roll
Just kidding, he says NO a lot more than he says Mine. He's still cute and getting bigger and smarter every single day. We were on a waiting list for HUMC preschool and we got the call yesterday that he is IN! He starts in September. I can't believe that my baby is big enough to go to preschool!

James has been going back and forth to Goldsboro to school all this week. At the end of the month he's going to Jacksonville, Florida for a week for school. I keep trying to talk him into taking me with him, the kids would be fine, don't ya think??? You're right, I guess I am staying here. Yesterday was his dad's birthday and James was really bummed after getting off the phone with him. He misses his parents a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if one days he said "babe I want to go back to NY".

I have been busy as usual with school and work and everything else. Down to one class now. That's a relief. My store has been so busy I have a hard time keeping up with the orders but I am not complaining! The extra money has been very helpful. You know for things like gymnastics and soccer and track uniforms etc etc etc.

Gotta run, Eli is beating up Jamie!!

Aquarium trip

Last week we got to go on a field trip to the aquarium with the middle boy's class. It was so much fun! The little boy (and his monkey) loved the large tank. Here's some pics from that wonderful day! How blessed we are to have the opportunity to do these things with our children.

BLIZZARD

Didn't think we got blizzards in NC did you? Me either. I have heard that it hasn't snowed this much here in eight years! We had warning so everyone got to the store and stocked up on groceries, (you never know how long you will be snowed in for) and our local grocery store even had snow shovels! We ended up getting so much snow that school was shut down for 2 days!! How much snow does Syracuse have to get for school to shut down for two days? 2 feet? 3? 4? Well, we got about an inch. The boys had so much fun in it, for a little while. Since they have my blood in them they didn't stay out in it long at all. The girl and I watched them play from inside :) Of course, we felt that we earned a cup of hot chocolate too because we were cold just watching them.
Enjoy the pics, it'll probably be another eight years before we get another storm like this one!

Mis-Matched

ok, until recently my idea of giving Jamie freedom of expression was to put together a weeks worth of outfits and every evening he chose which one to wear the following day. I thought this was such a great idea because he had some say in what he was wearing but he wasn't going to school looking like his father dressed him (cheap shot, sorry).
Well, every evening he would tell me he didn't want to wear any of the outfits that I picked out because they all matched. He wanted to wear clothes that don't match and when I told him that he HAS to match when he goes to school he, of course, asked "why??".

Why??

Because I want you to look your best??
Because the other kids will pick on you if you're mismatched??
Because your teacher will think your father dressed you?? (Couldn't resist)
Because I care more about what the teachers and other parents will think of me and my ability to make you look stylish that I do about your comfort and independence??

Needless to say, Jamie now chooses his own outfits. He asks he if it's shorts or pants weather and goes from there. As you can see from the pic he doesn't ask about the shirt.

I didn't get a pic yesterday, I was too busy trying not to giggle at his gray, cream and yellow striped shirt and his blue, red and cream PLAID shorts. Hey, at least they both had cream in them!

Here's today, not bad until you remember that the high today is 75 degrees.

I think he is wonderful and creative and I hope that the teachers, parents and other kids realize this as well. If not, it's their loss.

Jim the mechanic

We've all heard people say that we can't give tax credits to people who haven't "earned" them. We've heard that doing so will take away the incentive to "work hard" to achieve the "American Dream". Everyone knows about Joe the plumber, the guy who is reluctant to purchase a business because under Obama's economic plan, he would have to pay higher taxes on his projected $250,000 annual profit.

But have you heard of Jim the mechanic? No? Let me tell you a little about him. He has a wife and four kids. Jim has been a mechanic for 20 years, straight out of high school. Of course, "wrenching" was easier for him back then and he didn't have a family to support. It's a physically exhausting and mentally challenging job. He's getting older and starting to feel it. His hip hurts every single day and he's developing a limp from standing and laying on concrete all day. Jim leaves for work every day at 7 am and comes home at 7pm, just in time to read his kids a story and tuck them into bed. He doesn't want to work this hard, he has to. He has no other choice, believe me he has tried to find another profession but where else can he make $50k a year without a college education? But, how will he do this when he's 50? 60?

Jim's wife stays at home to take care of their children. It's a priority to them that they are the ones raising their children not a stranger in a day care. Besides, after paying for day care, gas, and all the other expenses that go along with working outside the home her paycheck wouldn't amount to much. She goes to college full time, taking online and evening classes. This will ensure that when she goes to work in a few years it won't be for $7 an hour. It's not easy juggling school and family especially because Jim is at work so many hours a day. But this is how it is and they both deal with it the best they can.

As I am sure that you know, $50,000 per year doesn't go very far when you have four children. Money is tight and they live paycheck to paycheck. Sometimes they have to use credit cards to pay bills or buy groceries. They rarely dine out and have few unnecessary expenses.

Fortunately, the state that they live in offers health insurance for children in lower middle class families. Their premium is $100 a year. (Thanks for spreading the wealth). Unfortunately, the state they live in does not offer insurance for adults in lower middle class families, so Jim's wife has no health insurance. Because of this she rarely goes to the doctor and often just tries to push any physical concerns she may have out of her mind.

Jim gets most of the income tax that he has paid throughout the year back after filing his taxes. This means that he is one of those people who pay little or no income tax. You know the ones haven't "earned" a tax credit. When they get that money back after filing taxes you would think that they could start a college fund, retirement fund, maybe even have a savings account with more than $100 in it. But, alas, Jim usually has to pay his property tax and over due bills with that money.

I think that Jim and his wife are working hard for what they have, a tax credit isn't their incentive, their family is. Tax credit or not, they are going to continue to do their best with what they have.

So, please don't expect Jim or his wife console you when you call them about your stock portfolio. They are too concerned with how they are going to buy groceries this week.

By the way, Joe the Plumber, paying taxes on $250,000 per year doesn't sound too bad to me.

Guilted once again

Once again, Tyra has guilted me into posting on my blog. For the record, I think I told you when I started this thing that I wouldn't be great at remembering to post!!!!

Well, Kortney came to visit for a week. I was hoping it would last longer. She is taking classes to get her GED and is planning on attending OCC in the fall.

Jamie has another ear and sinus infection. He's on three medications for three weeks to "beat it out of his system" and hopefully it will be over, he has been sick most of the winter. he took another nationwide reading test and is reading at a third grade level. What a smarty pants!!

Mike is also doing well in school. He is tutoring sixth graders in one class and other eighth graders in another. Just adding on to things that will look great on his college applications. The JV football team starts working out in the weight room this week and believe it or not he is thinking about NOT PLAYING FOOTBALL!!!!!!! I never thought I would see the day! We'll have to wait and see if he changes his mind.

Elijah is getting so BIG!! He isn't very interested in walking but LOVES getting into things he's not supposed to. He's just about the cutest thing you have ever seen at the beach, crawling around!!

Speaking of the beach, we went today because it has been 65 to 75 degrees here for over a week. This is our kind of winter! Planting our peas tomorrow.

James is doing well, likes his job most of the time. I am still liking school but ready for it to be over.

I have Shingles. It SUCKS!!! I am so sore most of the time. My doctor said on Thursday that the medication she gave me would relieve the symptoms in 24 hours but I am still suffering. I can't wait for them to be gone!!!

That's more than enough for now. If you want I will promise to post more often but it may be a lie!!! Enjoy the pics!

I got a kick in the pants today from Ty, that I haven't posted anything in my blog for a lllllllooooooonnnnnngggggg time! Sorry about that! We have been busy. I know... excuses, excuses!

Jamie and Mike are out of school for the summer. I can't believe how fast the school year went. Kortney is flying down on July 4th and staying with us until we drive up to NY July 13th. Elijah just turned 6 months old! Already!! He is 26.5" tall and weighs 14 lbs 11 oz. So big!!!

Sorry about the lack of details in my last post, I was very tired that night!!

Elijah was born on December 7th at 12:01 am. He weighed 6 lbs 8 oz. and was 19" long. He was 6lbs 5 ozs. when we left the hospital.

I was induced around 5:00 pm on the 6th because my amniotic fluid was too low and his heart rate was dropping. I worried throughout labor because of his heart rate but he is here and absolutely perfect! I will post more pics when I have the energy of him and his brothers. Kortney is coming to meet him at the end of the month, and she is SO excited!!!

Please say a prayer for my neighbors in Riegelwood, NC where a tornado hit yesterday morning. There are 8 confirmed fatalities, two of whom are children and 20 injured, four children critically injured.

Very scary to be so close (about 35 miles), it could have been here.

I am overly emotional anyways and had to turn off the tv yesterday, I just can't stand the footage of body bags and destroyed homes. Especially so close.

Kortney called yesterday to ask me to come home where it is "safe".

Do any of you mom's remember how vivid and realistic your dreams were when you were pregnant?? I have been having these dreams about the baby the entire pregnancy. Some good, most silly, some bad, some horrible, but they all seem so real!!

Well, a couple of nights ago I had a dream that the baby was born on December 8th. Is this a sign? Could be! Of course the baby was also ELMO so maybe we should not rely on my ability to tell the future!!!

Here are some projects that I have finished recently. Today I am putting away all the paints and brushes, tiles and grout for a while until we are settled with the baby.

Some of these are Christmas presents so act surprised if you get one! LOL

Sorry that I haven't posted in a while. It's that pregnancy thing (I can only use that excuse for a little while longer!)

It's been very exciting here. Getting ready for BABY!! Jamie attended a big brother class and learned alot about babies. He even got to go to the hospital nursery and see the "real" babies!

I was invited to a football party at my friend Deb's house on Sunday. Imagine my surprise when I walked in and it was a SUPRISE BABY SHOWER!!! I was so SHOCKED! It was so much fun. Here is a pic of the cutest cake I have ever seen. It is made out of diapers.

Isn't that cute!!

James' Crazy Beard

Actually I am not even sure it can be called a beard offically. I do not know what to call it, except crazy! He has had some strange ones in the past but this one is right up there with the strangest! Are you ready to see it??? I would ask everyone who reads this to call him and tell him how ridiculous it is but that seems to encourage him to grow it even longer (believe me I have tried this tactic!). OK, here he is.

He's lucky that I love him SOOOO much. Maybe I should cut it off while he is sleeping?!?!?!?

Jamie's First School Project

Jamie's first school project is due tomorrow. He had to make a poster ALL about Jamie. He had so much fun making it. He wanted to include pictures of EVERYONE and EVERYTHING he even remotely likes!!! But, he ran out of room!

I have to post a quick post because I just teased Val for not posting on her blog!

The boys are in the swing of things with school and Mike with football too.
Jamie wakes up at 6:00 every morning ready to go. He LOVES it. He is bummed out on weekends because he can't go to school.
Mike isn't quite that excited but he doesn't mind school. He really likes his Science teacher, Mr. Finnegan. He's "the coolest teacher in the world!
I miss my Kortney Loo like crazy. I wish she were here. It would even be worth wrestling her out of bed every morning!!

Ernesto

Still trying to get used to Tropical storms, hurricanes, and tornados!!

We finally got too tired to wait for Ernesto any longer and fell asleep, about a half hour before he finally made landfall near Southport. We lost power overnight and this morning the yard was a MESS with branches but other than that (and being woken up several times by wind that sounded like it was going to take the roof off) it wasn't so bad.

Here's what the local paper had to say~

Ernesto came ashore around 11:30 p.m. Thursday near Southport as a strong tropical storm, according to the National Weather Service. The strongest wind gusts were 74 mph, reported at Johnnie Mercers Fishing Pier in Wrightsville Beach. The highest rainfall amount -- nearly 12 inches -- was reported at Surf City.The most common damage being reported this morning came from the wind, which downed branches and other debris. Heavy rain left some roads flooded early Friday, though only scattered pools of water remained this morning.

Piece of cake!! Even better news is that school was cancelled due to hazardous road conditions. I told Mike that school was closed so that kids could help their moms clean up their yards. He didn't believe me but cleaned up the yard anyways! What a good boy!

So to sum it all it all up,

12 inches of rain, a very looooong time waiting, and a few branches in the yard later and we are all fine!

The boy in the first pic would NEVER be that close to a teacher that he just met and he wouldn't be smiling SOOO big!!

The boy in pic number one (which was taken about a month ago) would have been hiding behind his mommy's leg and pouting.

Jamie has changed so much in the last month, it's very surprising. He went from being my shy guy to confident and outgoing overnight, it seems. It makes letting him go to Kindergarten tomorrow much easier because I know that he is going to have tons of fun and make lots of friends. Yes, I am trying to convince myself, not you.

Yesterday we went to open house at his school and met his teacher, Ms. Holmes. She seems super nice and I think they are a perfect fit. She is sweet and soft spoken. On the way home he told me, "my teacher, Ms. HOMES is pretty".

I think it is going to be a GREAT year!!!

Summer vacation is almost over

We only have two more days of summer vacation. What else do you do on one of the last days? When it is raining?

Go fishing at the pier, of course!! Even Boomer went. James caught a huge ray or skate (I can't tell the difference), it was pretty cool. Mike looks pretty proud of it, doesn't he??

I posted the pic of Boomer swimming because I know that no one would believe it without seeing it!

Tonight we went to Mike's school for open house. It was very hot and crowded there. We met one of his teachers. It was nice for him to see his buddy's that he hasn't seen in a while.

Tomorrow we go to Jamie's open house and meet his teacher. I promise to try not to cry!

This is my very first blog. How exciting for me!

Almost every day I read my ebay friend Rachel's blog and almost every day I say "I am going to start a blog." Then the next time I read Rachel's blog I say "oh yeah, I was going to start a blog, I am going to start one today" then the next day.... you know.

Well, today is the big day! I actually started a blog!

I am hoping this blog will help the people that I miss like crazy in NY keep up with all our going on's.

Of course, I know little to nothing about making a blog so be patient with me while I figure it out. Soon, mine will be as cool and entertaining as Rachel's. I hope.
